HB:BX BUILDING CULTURAL INFRASTRUCTURE

AIANY/Center for Architecture, New York, New York, NY

Proposal 2010
Project 2010
Projected Completion 2010

LRA designed the exhibition, graphic identity & catalog for this exhibition, High Bridge:Bronx (HB:BX) Building Cultural Infrastructure, which explored the intersection between physical and social infrastructure in cities and the opportunity for the creation of a cultural infrastructure over the span of the Highbridge, an abandoned steel arch bridge over the Harlem River connecting upper Manhattan to the Bronx. Organized by the AIANY/Center for Architecture, the 2010 competition, fueled by the recent renovation of the High Line and the elegance of the bridge itself, challenged young designers to create a vision for the High Bridge to rethink how disused infrastructure could find new purpose and energize its surrounding community.

A graphic datum lines the gallery walls demarcating the exhibition content within a unifying field of green. To highlight featured competition entries, graphics were mounted on large individual panels and offset from the wall. Adding a sense of scale, full sized silhouettes of various elements of the historic bridge were drawn in black along the walls.
